Who is Megin Kennett?
Megin Kennett, Certified CMMC professional and managing director of K2, is the driving force behind K2 Consulting Solutions LLC., and fosters cybersecurity success for clients and strategic partners serving the defense industrial base and private sectors. With 20 plus years experience working in IT, cybersecurity, marketing and business development, her firm specializes in guiding organizations through the intricacies of implementing NIST SP 800-171a, DFARS 252.204-7012, 32 CFR 2002 (the CUI program) and the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program.
A Virginia Tech graduate and Fairfax native, Megin’s career in technology commenced two and a half decades ago while working as an intern at Federal Computer Week, a federally focused marketing and advertising agency based in Vienna.
Influenced by her father's career in the NSA and a lineage of Military service, Megin nestled comfortably in the tech and innovation space and thrives when collaborating with stakeholders to educate and simplify complex concepts in a positive and productive environment.
In 2017, after over a decade of calling Hampton Roads home, Megin joined the Signature Class of Lead757. Alongside 50 like-minded professionals, she delved into studying the unique history and assets of the region, embracing a legacy tradition of connecting, inspiring, and motivating leaders committed to bolstering prosperity within the Commonwealth.
The same year, Megin earned recognition as one of 'Inside Business' Top 40 under 40.' In 2018, she played a pivotal role on the Hampton Roads Smart City Task Force, leveraging her telecom expertise to support the 2018 Smart Infrastructure Challenge in Columbus, Ohio. This event sparked momentum, leading to the development of the 'Southside Fiber Ring,' a transformative initiative aimed to bridge the digital divide, enhance ISP availability, and introduce competition to a historically monopolized market.
Selected as the cybersecurity trade partner for the VEDP’s VALET program (Virginia leaders in export trade), Megin' and her team were especially honored to speak to the new and graduating VALET class on cybersecurity strategies and how to remain resilient in today’s’ uncertain times.
Megin has devoted decades of service to her community, including the Virginia Beach Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia where she spearheaded several fundraising initiatives including Co-chairing the Virginia Beach Technology & Innovation Commission (VBTIC) with the Honorable Ben Davenport. In this role, Megin worked with technology and innovation thought leaders, business owners, city officials, and university directors to drive strategic initiatives to bolster the competitiveness of our city and region in terms of the technology, cybersecurity, UAS/UAV, and the connectivity that impacts our private and defense sectors.
